A mouthguard is a piece of gear you shouldn't go to combat sports training without. If you don't have one yet, find out why you need it and how to fit it to your jaw.
Mouthguards aren't just for boxers. BJJ, Muay Thai, kickboxing, and any other combat sport athletes use them whenever there is a risk of losing teeth from an accidental hit.
How a mouthguard works
The main task is tooth protection against getting knocked out or chipped, but that's not all. A mouthguard minimizes the risk of jaw injuries, such as fractures, by absorbing impacts and distributing their force. Since the teeth are covered, it protects soft tissues—you won't bite through your cheek or tongue.
By using a mouthguard, you will save yourself pain and money spent at the emergency dentist. Most importantly, you won't miss training due to injury :) If you like your smile and value your natural teeth, invest in a quality mouthguard. Our "Knockout Game" mouthguard is an absolute bestseller, famous for its durability and easy fitting.
Mouthguard - how to fit?
Here is a quick guide on how to mold a mouthguard:
1. Place the mouthguard in hot water for about 40 seconds.
2. Put the mouthguard over your teeth and mold it by pressing your fingers against your lips.
3. Press the sides of the mouthguard with your tongue. Do not bite down.
4. Put the mouthguard in cold water and then place it back on your teeth for the final adjustment.
5. Dip the mouthguard in cold water once more.
A properly molded mouthguard should stay in place. If it falls off, repeat the process. If you notice visible damage during use, such as cracks or deformations, replace it with a new model.
