New year, new you? If you want to go to your first BJJ session but are wondering whether it actually makes sense, read this text. Here are 5 reasons why Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is worth training.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is for everyone
No matter how old you are, whether you're a guy or a girl—you can start training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu even at 40. What counts is your willingness and commitment. BJJ isn't considered an injury-prone sport, although bruises or a jammed finger can happen. Sure, a mouthguard will come in handy (because in contact sports, anything can happen) along with a solid warmup. Over time, your body will get used to the effort, and if you add strength training and a balanced diet to the mix, you'll quickly see the results of these changes :)

A workout for body and mind
BJJ will positively impact not only your physical fitness, but also your character. You'll learn patience (especially when repeating a technique for the hundredth time), discipline, punctuality, and how to deal with failure. These are traits useful both on the mat and in everyday life. You'll often hear that BJJ also teaches humility. Why? On the mat, it doesn't matter what your job title is, how much money you have in your bank account, or who you know. Only your skills matter. You see, it's no joke when someone says that BJJ training makes them a better person :) You can read more about this at Ground Game Academy.
You will make new friends
Beginner groups can be large. However, after a while, some of the newcomers drop off and those who actually care about progress stay. That's why during BJJ training you'll meet people who, just like you, want to develop and sharpen their skills. But man does not live by rolling alone. There are also club parties... :)

You will get a mental break
Every trip to training is your time for yourself. And nothing works better on a head exhausted after a hard day at work than a solid workout on the mat :) While drilling, you focus on performing the technique correctly and forget about daily problems or annoying situations. You leave training physically tired, but mentally completely relaxed.
You will be healthier
If you get hooked on BJJ training, there's a high chance you'll want to switch to a healthier lifestyle. To gain more strength, you'll sign up for the gym, and for better cardio, you'll quit smoking. If you know you have training in the morning and you really care about being there, you'll hold back on alcohol in the evening. In short, you'll start thinking about your body and health much more consciously than before.
